P+Ex is pleased to announce the publication of a new technical article, “Closing the Loop – Linking Service Durability to Resilience and Sustainability through Defined Service Life and Lessons Learned Advocacy,” in the October 2026 issue of ACI Concrete International.
Sustainability and resilience depend not only on reducing initial environmental impacts, but also on how reliably and efficiently structures perform over time. Extending service life can improve long-term asset value while reducing the materials, energy, disruptions, and emissions associated with premature intervention or replacement.
The article promotes a practical feedback-loop approach: lessons from deterioration, repair projects, and field performance should inform future durability planning, design criteria, construction practices, maintenance strategies, and asset-management decisions. Connecting design intent with actual performance enables owners, designers, contractors, and repair professionals to make better-informed decisions that improve infrastructure longevity, resource efficiency, reliability, and resilience.
This perspective reflects P+Ex’s mission to preserve and extend the service life of concrete structures by connecting knowledge from existing assets and repair practice with decisions that shape future infrastructure. Durable, service-life-focused solutions can reduce premature repairs, conserve resources, limit disruptions, and strengthen long-term performance. We thank ACI Concrete International for providing a platform to share these perspectives. We invite members, partners, owners, designers, contractors, and industry colleagues to read the article and consider how lessons from existing structures can be incorporated into the decisions that shape more durable, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.
We thank the Concrete International editorial team for permission to share it here.
