Life in Construction Podcast: A Conversation on Concrete Preservation and Service Life Extension
When Peter Emmons and David Whitmore – our founding and sponsoring members, were invited to participate in Sika’s podcast “A Life in Construction,” they saw it as the perfect platform to tell the story of P+Ex. On air, they spoke candidly about why they founded the organization and how their combined decades of experience had shaped its direction. They explained how, instead of the traditional “break and fix” mentality, P+Ex encourages a shift toward long-term asset management—an approach that not only conserves resources but also reduces CO₂ emissions and delivers financial value.
During the conversation, they outlined P+Ex’s six strategic goals and discussed how collaborative working groups bring together industry professionals to advance concrete preservation. Real-world examples painted a vivid picture of how preserving what already exists can be more impactful than building anew. Through the podcast, Peter and David inspired listeners to embrace sustainability by focusing on service life extension and the stewardship of our built environment.
